Social media can be a great way to connect with friends and family or keep up with current trends, but it also has the potential to become a burden. In some, it can even cause anxiety and depression. Last year, the average American spent 2 hours and 25 minutes a day on social media. Over the course of the year, that amounts to over one full month!

One way to reduce social media use, or at least become more aware of it, is to go on a detox. Here are three steps to help you go on a 30-Day Social Media Detox.
STEP 1: Track your screen time
To start off this detox you’ve got to look at how much time you spend staring at your phone or computer. Check the settings on your phone to see your screen time, then look at how much of that time is spent on social media apps. Screen time is not the only way to monitor use though. Sit down and reflect, thinking about how you use social media daily.
Do you scroll through Facebook to actually see how your friends are doing or are you just bored? Do you find that new TikTok trend genuinely entertaining and enriching? Why do you keep that Snapchat streak going?
STEP 2: Limit distractions
Now that you’ve got a good idea of your current use, it’s time to start lowering those minutes. This means limiting distractions from social media. If you cannot delete the apps completely, try putting time limits on them or muting your notifications.
You could also change your phone’s color settings to black and white, which makes the colors and pictures, originally designed to distract you, look much less attractive. Whatever you choose, make sure it is challenging and effective at reducing your screen time.
STEP 3: Find a screen-free hobby
With all this extra time on your hands, try picking up a new off-screen hobby. This can be knitting, hiking, calligraphy, boxing, writing a book, or fishing - all of which you can learn with the help of Dreamfora’s 1-Tap plans.
Manual tasks like these can actually help reduce stress levels, improve neuroplasticity, and boost mood! You’ll also become a part of a new community, so try reaching out to others who share your hobby!
